Here is what i want,, i want to have the default search or get rid of it, and have the side bar have a search same as in the regular search in the plugin. I just can’t seem to wrap my head around it .

This is my first post on AWPCP. I have been using this plugin for a week now. Did quite a lot of modifications. Here is one I thought would be useful to all of u.

Presently search for keywords uses a LIKE sql clause on title and details. Problem with this is if we have an ad with title ” Test ad for bird category”  and users hits a search for “birds” OR “bird for sale” OR “category bird” OR so on…  then the search result will give back “ null “.  But I would like the ad to be listed since it is relevant and result should be sorted first by posted date and next by relevance if more than 1 row matches.

Here is the solution -

use FULLTEXT search functionality of MySQL.

step 1: CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX search_index ON wp_awpcp_ads (ad_title, ad_details)

step 2: edit function dosearch()

replace —

if(isset($keywordphrase) && !empty($keywordphrase)){
$where.=” AND (ad_title LIKE ‘%$keywordphrase%’ OR ad_details LIKE ‘%$keywordphrase%’)”;
}

with –

if(isset($keywordphrase) && !empty($keywordphrase)){

$where.=”AND  MATCH(ad_title,ad_details) AGAINST (‘$keywordphrase’) “;
}

step3: now fire your search.

Note: in a FULLTEXT search , words that are present in 50% or more of the rows in the table are considered common and do not match.

Other bug in AWPCP search-

Comma separated search for country, state, city, county not working. I dont know if its just me. But I found a work around.

replace –

if(is_array( $searchcountry ) )

with –

if(str_word_count($searchcountry, 0) > 0 )

I’ll be playing with this more seriously in the coming days/months.  Am sure there’ll be rooms for improvement to customise it to my specific requirements.  But how great is it to start at this point, rather than from ground zero.

I’ve been testing it for 3 days. It’s very easy to install and configure. I’m running it on WP2.8 and WP2.8.1 – dev  in free mode.

I read some issue in other posts. In my case: images upload fine, Permalinks don’t work and it’s volnerable to reverting. I had to clear the database after trying to turn on permalinks. Also previously mentioned layout issues in ie6-ie8. I tried to alter css, didn’t find a solution.

Translation module will be highly appreciated. I already started to translate awpcp.php, but realized that it would be useless after the next update. If you create a module, I would translate in Russian.

Probably there’s another UTF-8 non-compliance in email functions, I had to fill out the boxes in English then.

So far, if no bugs, it would be one of the best plugins in terms of its awesomeness and functionality, but not sure if it’s stable enough to use. I will keep on testing.
