The Browse Categories Page is a child page created under the main classifieds entry page. The Browse Categories page uses the shortcode [AWPCPBROWSECATS]. If this shortcode is missing or otherwise contains an error the page will not work. You can name this page anything you want. To avoid potential problems please edit the page names from within your Classifieds admin page, not from wordpress.

The Browse Categories page works the same as the Browse Ads Page, only it will display the ads in a particular category based on the category ID it receives.

When running in SEO mode the Browse Categories page works by being passed the value of the category to be viewed as a dynamic path within the structure of the URL. As with the Show Ad and Reply To Ad pages, the system must use the path setting in the classifieds admin options SEO Settings to decide where in the URL the value of the category ID is stored.

Example URL: http://www.awpcp.com/classifieds/browse-categories/4/Clothing–Accessories/

In the example URL above the value of the category ID is stored in position #2. See table below for visual of how position is determined.

If  Browse Categories does not appear to be working ( when you click a link to browse a category it shows all ads regardless of the category),  it could be because, based on your website’s URL structure, the category ID is not stored in position #2. You will need to go to your classifieds admin SEO Settings options and change the path associated with the Browse categories page. That option is shown below:

If the system is not receiving the correct category ID it will not know which category to pull ads from so it will default to showing all listings in all categories.
